Aleksandra Jurgenson was the daughter of Tchaikovsky's publisher Pyotr Jurgenson. Tchaikovsky knew Aleksandra well and when she joined the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, he insisted that she should paint his portrait. Tchaikovsky dedicated L'espiegle No12, of the Eighteen Pieces Op72 1893 to Aleksandra. Her portrait of fellow painter Surikov can be seen in the Tretiakov Gallery, Moscow.
