The work was written by Ippolito Caffi during his trip to the Mediterranean. He was absorbed in romantic landscapes, he like many artists of that time. Caffi took part in the struggle for the freedom of Italy, and Lissa died in a naval battle. In 2018, the Caffi exhibition was held at the Sinebryhoff Art Museum in Helsinki.
He was born at Belluno. His first works were produced at the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice. By 1830, he had won awards for his vedute at the Academy. He subsequently moved to Rome, made some reputation by his treatise on perspective, as well as by his investigations on Roman archaeology. In 1843 he visited Greece and the East (Athens, Constantinople, Syria, Egypt, and Malta). The first work of his that created a sensation was Carnival at Venice. This was exhibited at Paris in 1846, and was admired for its brilliant effects of light. Other works are his Panorama of Rome from Monte Mario, Isthmus of Suez, and Close of the Carnival at Rome. He joined revolutionary movements in Venice in 1848, and had to retire into Piedmont. His aim of commemorating in paint the first Italian naval engagement was frustrated when the Re d' Italia, on which he traveled was destroyed on July 20, 1866, by Austro-Venetian fleet at the battle of Lissa, drowning him along with his comrades.

Paul Casberg was arguably the most talented artist working for The Eickhorn firm. In fact he is responsible for the design of the SA Feldherrnhalle Leader's Dagger, the Teno EM Hewer, Army Officers Degan, The army Officers Dagger and others. He was also commissioned to design flags and other accoutrements. His work is a huge reason for the amazing designs and collectability of third Reich edged weapons. This Framed multi piece offering is a pleasure to display. Recently professionally re-framed at a cost of over $200, it is now in a frame that compliments the value and character of the piece. The frame is 25x20 with a leather like black frame and hangers in the back. The Piece is double sided. The reverse shows a picture of Casberg at work, an original signature and a blurb: "Master artist Paul Casberg at work in his studio (from the only known photograph of Casberg). Original photograph courtesy of Co. James P. Atwood (Ret.). Artwork by Brian Molloy." The obverse, or front is an original rendering of Casberg by artist Brian Molly. It is signed and dated '78. Finally the main attraction, the original artwork for an Army officers degan By Casberg. I cannot express the level of detail and skill in this piece of art. The use of color to show depth and shadows is magnificent. This is truly a special offering that a serious collector will enjoy for many years.

Ermenegildo Antonio Donadini (born June 19, 1847 in Spalato , Dalmatia , † October 14, 1936 in Radebeul ) was an Austro-German history painter, restorer, photographer, royal Saxon councilor and art collector. Among other things, he taught Queen Carola to draw.
Donadini was born in 1847 in Spalato in the Austrian Empire , today's Split in Croatia . His father Giovanni Battista Donadini came from Venice. He was a judicial officer in Spalato.
Ermenegildo Antonio Donadini is studying with a scholarship for “training as an artist” at the Academy of United Fine Arts in Vienna . He finished his studies in Vienna with Eduard Engerth and Christian Ruben with a diploma in history painting.
Then he moved his studies to Venice. There he met the painters Hans Makart and Heinrich Lossow , with whom he went to Munich. In 1872 he became a master student of Carl Theodor von Piloty , a well-known genre and history painter , at the Munich Academy .
In 1877 Donadini became a professor at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna. Since he was dissatisfied with his work in Vienna, he switched to the professorship for figurative painting and the management of the studio for theater decoration at the Academy of Applied Arts in Dresden, based on Antonsplatz . Under the protection of the Saxon regent couple, Donadini was a respected artist there for over 30 years.
Donadini created numerous monumental wall and ceiling paintings with mythological and historical themes for the Villa Bleyl, the Villa Eschebach and the Wettinersaal in the Dresden City Palace, most of which were destroyed in the Second World War. He restored numerous frescoes by Louis de Silvestre , Moritz von Schwind and Friedrich Preller the Elder in Dresden and Leipzig . In addition, Donadini wrote several works on Saxon art history.
Hofrat Donadini was a pioneer of photography, and many of his glass negatives came into the possession of the German Photo Library of the Saxon State Library in the 1980s and 1990s .
In 1882 he bought a vineyard house in the Rietzschkegrund of Zitzschewig , a current district of Radebeul , as a summer residence and studio . In the following years he expanded the building with a studio building and a collection building. After his retirement in 1913, he settled there completely.
His house became a museum-like repository for his ever-growing collections, one of which was the admiration for Napoleon.

Eduard Edigaryan was born in 1943 in the Armenian city of Gjumri. His studies included attendance at the Arts School in Gjumri, the Arts Faculty in Erevan, and the Arts Institute in Erevan. From 1970 to 1974 he was the main set designer in the Dramatic Theatre in Gjumri, and in 1974 was accepted in the Artists Union in the Soviet Union. In 1987 he was declared a National Artist and in that same year he created costumes and set decorations for over 40 plays at Erevan Opera and Ballet Theatre. Sadly, in 1988 an earthquake destroyed nearly all his works, including 200 costume designs for the Armenian Opera "David Sasunci". He moved to Prague in 1966.
He has had personal exhibitions in Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Italy, and Belgium, and his work can be found in private collections and galleries in the United States, Australia, Canada, England, Scandinavia, and South Africa. His works are rich both from the drawing and color points of view. Edigaryan paints mainly sitting or lying woman figures, whose symbolic meaning achieves an uncertain Oriental touch through the impact of golden and ultramarine colors. There is very personal artistic language, where figurative elements intentionally mix with a dense combination of symbols, where some of them copy the contours of human figures.

Ernst Fischer is the father of the famous sculptor Bruno Hermann Fischer (1860 - 1932). Ernst Fischer was a painter and a lithographer from Dresden. His father was an artist in porcelain painting. Ernst Fischer, studied in the years 1866-69 in the Dresden Academy, and in the atelier of the famous Adrian Ludwig Richter, in Dresden, from 1873 to 1880. Beautiful little work.

Fischhof first studied architecture, but later devoted himself to painting and studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts and in Munich. After his return to Vienna, he shifted his work to painted imitations of tapestries. Common themes are Dutch coastal and harbor views, Italian waterfront landscapes, and rural scenes with a stream or path. In almost every work there are sketches of people / children with facial features only indicated, often a column of smoke from a chimney and seagulls in flight in seascapes, in Italian views umbrella acacias and cypresses.

Gegerfelt studied art in Dresden in 1901-1902 and at the Danish Academy of Arts in 1902-1906, with Karl Wilhelmson in 1906-1908, and during study trips to Italy. Her art consists of landscape motifs in oil or watercolors. She painted street motives, the busy streets of Paris, Rome and Venice. Among Swedish motives, she mainly depicted various views of Halland Vedero and Torekov. The artist's works are presented at the National Museum of Sweden.

Johann Adolf Hoeffler was among the Frankfurt and Kronberg painters particulary close to Burger and Burnitz. He received a profound education at the Städel Institute as well as at the Munich and Düsseldorf Art Academies.

Julius Paul Junghanns was born in 1876 in Vienna into a Saxonian family living in this city. Very soon after his birth, his family returned to Dresden, where the future artist was to spend his childhood. In 1895, he graduated from an art school as a lithographer. In the next (1896) year he began studying in the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts; in 1899 moved to Munich, in order to become a pupil of animalist painter Heinrich von Zügel at the Munich Academy. Junghanns studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts until 1904. In 1904, recommended by his teacher von Zügel, he (he was 28 then) became the Head of the Animalist and Open-Air Painting of the Dusseldorf Academy. Two years later he received the title of a Professor. He taught at the Dusseldorf Academy until his retirement in 1945.
Julius Paul Junghanns has had several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the KODE Art Museums of Bergen. Many works by the artist have been sold at auction, including 'Spring' sold at Christie's Amsterdam 'Nineteenth Century Art' in 2000 for $8,052. The artist died in 1958.

Son of the successful painter and frescoist Wilhelm von Kaulbach, who became court painter of Bavaria and director of the Munich Academy, Hermann Kaulbach tried several professions before becoming a painter himself. At the age of thirteen, he left his father’s house for schooling in the town of Weinheim and then finished his secondary education in Nuremberg, where he lodged with his brother-in-law, who was director of the art academy. Still, Hermann began studying medicine in Munich while planning to become a poet. Eventually, however, his hobby of drawing drew the attention of Karl von Piloty, a professor at the Munich Academy and royal protégé, who convinced the twenty-one-year-old to become a pupil in his studio.
Kaulbach’s talent must have grown considerably in a short time, since this painting was purchased less than four years after he began study with Piloty. The artist went on to a long career with trips to Italy and a professorship at the Munich Academy. Known later for his paintings of literary and historical subjects, Kaulbach was also a talented genre painter with a gift for depicting the events in children’s lives. His sense of humor is evident here as he includes an eavesdropper listening to the confession.

Carl Saltzmann (1847-1923) was a German marine and landscape painter, born in Berlin. He was a pupil of Herman Eschke, then studied at Düsseldorf, and, after traveling through Holland and Italy, settled in Berlin. In 1878-80 he went with Prince Henry of Prussia on his trip around the world and later accompanied the German Emperor on his visit to St. Petersburg and Norway. Of his pictures resulting from these journeys may be mentioned "Corvette Prince Adalbert in the Strait of Magellan" (1883, Breslau Museum), "In the Pacific Ocean" (1888, German Emperor), and "Arrival of the Hohenzollern at Kronstadt" (Emperor of Russia). The National Gallery, Berlin, contains two paintings by him. In 1888 Saltzmann was awarded the great gold medal at Berlin and in 1896 he was appointed professor at the Academy.

Afanassi Sheloumoff was born August 17, 1892 in Khersonskaya province of Ukraine.
He is well-known in Europe Russian battle painter. After graduating from high school he joined the Odessa Art School, later - the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, N. Samokishi battle painting class. 1914 - the First World War interrupted his teaching and the painter went at the front as a battle soldiers, later - an officer and then he joined the Volunteer Army. 1920 - the artist with the White army emigrated to Turkey, then to Serbia, where a few years he had been working as a painter. Soon his paintings were known and - bought by different museums and private collectors. A representative of Russian Art exhibition in Belgrade in 1930 exhibited Sheloumoff`s "General Wrangel in the battle against the German batteries". It was a very professional and high standart painting.
In 1941 the artist interrupted the career and went to Balkans together with the Russian Army, then was Yugoslavia and later he moved to the suburb of Munich, where he continued painting. He also painted for the Russian Serbian Cavalry Museum, then – in USA. 1979, in Maracay, Venesuela, his personal exhibition works got a very high assessment. All of them were high artistic level paintings – declared the majority of the citizens. Fantastically large number of visitors had visited the last one.
The 85 artist`s birthday was hold in Munich in 1977
His works are today in Yugoslavia, Germany and USA museums.
Sheloumoff died 25-th January 1983 Shtarenberge, in Germany.

Alexander Tolstoy was born into the family of Sergei Tolstoy (b. 1915) in St. Petersburg. Taking part in the civil war. After the war, the artist immigrated to the Czech Republic. Tolstoy graduated from the Higher Technological Academy and the School of Art and Design in Prague (1922-27). Then he graduated from the Prague Academy of Arts (1927 -1930). He was one of the founders of the Czech Union of Russian Artists. After World War II, he was ambassador to Scandinavia, first in Sweden, Dalarna, then in Norway (died in Haslum). Listed in the lexicon of Swedish artists, distinguished as a nude and portrait painter.

Estate of Count Yusupov Archangel near Moscow - an outstanding monument representing classicism simultaneously widely known, priceless cultural studies museum. Latvian artist E.Veydemanis (whose father - Karlis was also a painter) studied architecture in Latvia, painting - in Moscow, where most lived and worked. This attraction was repeatedly embodied by the artist (2003 - Award of the Government of Moscow).
Veidemanis Egil Karlovich (1924-2004) Painter. Honored Artist of Russia. Laureate of the Moscow City Hall (2003) for his work on Moscow. After demobilization from the army, he studied at the Moscow Art School "Memory of 1905." He graduated from the faculty of architecture of the Latvian State University. Permanently exhibited at the All-Union art exhibitions. His personal exhibitions were held in Moscow (1985, 2002, 2005), in 1987 in Riga and Cesis (Latvia). His works are in the Museum of History and Reconstruction of Moscow, in the museums of Kaluga, Ryazan, Cesis and Riga (Latvia). Most of the works by the artist acquired by the Ministry of Culture of the USSR.

Sergei Alekseevich Vlasov was born September 13, 1873 in a village near the town of Galich hemp (now Mountain Street) to a peasant family. Here he spent his childhood and youth. Here, early demonstrated his passion for drawing and painting, but the means to study in the family was not.
Finally, on the advice of some local officials Zemsky, appreciated the artistic abilities of the young Sergei, he filed a petition Galichsky city council to appoint him to benefits or scholarships for art education. To his joy Zemstvo gave him a lump sum of 50 rubles.
Sergei Alekseevich went to St. Petersburg and entered into Higher Art School at the Academy of Arts. Works in the workshop IE Repin. Rector of the Higher School of Art Beklemishev Galichsky city council sends a letter of thanks. Convinced that money well spent, the messenger passed and successfully engaged in art classes, Council continued to provide them financial assistance until the end of the course.
After graduating from art school, SA Vlasov entered the Academy of Arts, which ends in 1910. At the age of 37 he received the title of the artist's painting "Song".
In subsequent years, the artist goes to the North to the White Sea, then to the Volga, and, of course, visiting their homes. Here Sergei Alekseevich created a series of modest, deeply realistic sketches from the life of Galich and its environs. He did not create large paintings, and opened the image of his native city as if in installments in a series of sketches.
Places of permanent residence Vlasov chooses Petersburg, Vasilevsky Island. Here in Havana in 1919 was the first exhibition of his works.
In 1921, Sergei Alekseevich organizes an exhibition of his works in Galicia. A number of his works becomes Galichsky museum, now "Galich XIX century" has become a local newspaper. Many works were acquired by private individuals.
In Galic Vlasov attract other ancient cities - Novgorod, Pskov, Rostov Veliky Ustyug. He likes to draw historical monuments, was a great expert on the restoration of wall paintings.
Next to a large exhibition was held in 1937 in Leningrad, and in 1938, Vlasov brings this exhibition in Galich. Here, August 7 Galich heat mark 30 years of creative work of the artist.
Sergei Alekseevich promised to its 70 th to collect all the work related to native land, to convey their hometown. Unfortunately, this dream could not come true, prevented the Great Patriotic War.
In 1942, in blockaded by an exploding shell took the life of the artist. Buried SA Vlasov on Piskarevsky.

Gottlieb Daniel Paul Weber was born in Darmstadt, Germany, in 1823, and in the early 1840s began his art studies locally with landscape and genre painter August Lucas (1803-1863) and in Frankfurt with Jakob Becker (1810-1872). He continued his education at the Munich Academy from 1844-1848 and studied with genre painter Josephus Laurentius Dyckmans (1811-1888) before emigrating to the United States and settling in Philadelphia in 1848. There Weber conducted painting classes, counting among his students William Trost Richards, Edward Moran and William Stanley Haseltine, and began exhibiting with the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. His bucolic landscapes were inspired by the scenery he encountered during extensive travels throughout the Northeast, including sites outside Philadelphia, up the Hudson River, the Catskill Mountains and Niagara Falls. Weber returned to Europe several times throughout his life, touring Scotland, France, Germany and Switzerland from 1857-1858, and in 1861 returned to Darmstadt as court painter to the Grand Duke of Hesse-Darmstadt. He did not stay in Germany long, but returned to Philadelphia where he lived until his death in 1916. In addition to the Pennsylvania Academy, where he won a silver medal in 1858, Weber exhibited at the Boston Athenaeum, the National Academy, the Brooklyn Art Association, the Washington Art Association and the Paris Salon, and today examples of his work can be found at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy, the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art in New Paltz, New York, the Frye Art Museum in Seattle, and the Westmoreland Museum of Art in Greenburg, Pennsylvania.

Fritz Winkler was born in Dresden, Germany on August 7, 1894, the son of a lithographer. From 1912 to 1915 he studied at the Dresden Art Academy with Emanuel Hagenbarth. After losing his left eye in WW1 he returned to study with Hegenbarth. From 1921 to 1928, Winkler, as a freelance collaborator, produced illustrations for the national newspaper for Plauen and the Vogtland. He traveled through Germany in 1927 with three other artists and illustrated the book Earth, published in 1929, Under His Feet, A new journey to Germany.
Around 1920, Winkler was a member of the artists' group 'Deutscher Kunstlerbundes' in Dresden. After the establishment of the National Socialist (Nazi) party 1933, Fritz Winkler was deemed an undesirable or "degenrate" artist. He became part of the group of artists of the Seven Strollers, a loose alliance of seven artists including Johannes Beutner, Erich Fraass, Otto Griebell, Josef Hegenbarth and others. He belonged to the "second generation of the Expressionists and was a member of the German 'Artists' Union.
Despite his having lost an eye in WWI, Winkler was conscripted into the Second World War and most of his work was destroyed in 1945 in the bombing of Dresden. He returned to Dresden in 1946 and in the remaining 18 years until his death in 1964, Fritz Winkler created more than three hundred paintings and five thousand watercolors, which he left with his will to the Dresden State Art Collections. Fritz Winkler died in Dresden on March 20, 1964.
