Eelma Herald (born 1934). Cover to the Artist Portfolio (1983)

Description:
Lithography, thin cardboard
27,5 x 22
Lower right - H. Eelma 83.

The graphic artist Herald Eelmaa studied at the ERKI from 1953 to 1959 and made illustrations for the first part of A.H. Tammsaar's novel Truth and Justice. After graduation, the artist devoted himself mainly to high-tech printmaking.
Until the beginning of the 1970s, he practiced mostly linoleum cut in free graphics, expanding the possibilities of expressing this technique in Estonian printmaking. The prevailing realistic realism in earlier works receded in the mid-1960s towards a more decorative approach (Flowering, 1968). The transition to drawing was revolutionized in creation, and the virtuosic drawing skills characterize most drawings of the 1970s.

A graphic and painter, Myart Laarman was also occupied with teaching and literary work. In the twenties he studied at A.Laikmaa’s school, then continued his education during trips to Northern countries (Finland, Germany, Denmark and Sweden). Was a member of the Estonian Cubists and Constructivists Group, in the thirties he changed to rather realistic motifs.
Typical of his works is the laconic and decorative style in the use of colours and reserved lyrical interpretation.

Description:

Graphic artist Silvi Liiva was born in 1941. Studied at Tartu Art School since 1958, graduated in 1963. She joined ERKI in the same year and graduated from it in 1969. She has worked as an art editor at Eesti Raamat and a lecturer at ERKI since 1987. He has been a member of the Artists' Union since 1972.Specifically engaged in etching in free graphics. Has requested the opening of the hidden sides of the human psyche in timeless images with gloomy-lyrical moods. Early works are dominated by light surfaces, rich in details and figures, the outline is emphasized. Expressiveness has been noted since the mid-1980s. The basis of his creative method is the ability to create emotional, existential but at the same time emotional worlds. Sand's creation of the 90s is even more abstract than before, and the proportion of fiction has receded. The subtle graphic lineage is now at the service of creating monumental large-scale forms, creating powerful epic landscapes with powerful black-and-white simple proportions.
